Text from the CD-sleeve:

The title "Great Joy" is taken from this CD’s main work, "Great Joy for accordion orchestra and percussion", which the composer Lars Peter Schultz has dedicated to the Accordion Youth Orchestra of Bornholm’s Music School. Simultaneously the title refers to the idea of this CD: to create "great joy" round about.

Lars Peter Schultz composed "Great Joy" in 1995/96 and the orchestra first performed this big work in "Trommen" in Hørsholm (north of Copenhagen) 17th May, 1996 as a part of International Accordion Festival Copenhagen 96. It became an overwhelming success. It is especially gratifying that so many young people afterwards expressed their enthusiasm and among other things said, that "it had sent shivers down their back" and that they "had got goose pimples".

The work uses a contemporary music language, also with untraditional sounds especially in the large-scaled, extremely varied 2nd movement, while the 1st and 3rd movements are both virtuoso and characterized by their rhythmical quality. Here you can clearly feel elements from rock music of our time woven into the music.

Futhermore the CD contains music of the following composers: Frank Loesser, Václav Trojan, César Franck, Johan Svendsen, Jan Kapr, L. v. Beethoven, David Johnston, John Miles og Helmuth Herold.
